Find out how much tax you will be paying, based on your current salary and annual dividend payments, with our salary and dividend tax calculator.
Dividends are paid to those who own shares in a company. They are calculated by distributing the profits a company has made. Dividends are in most cases taxed after your other income sources have already been taxed.
Calculating tax on dividends works more or less the same way as the tax on any other income. The essential distinction is the tax rates.
Dividend income is taxed as follows:
- £0 – £12,570 | 0% (personal allowance)
- £12,571 – £50,270 | 8.75%
- £50,270 – £150,000 | 33.75%
- £150,000 + | 38.35%
In addition to the tax-free personal allowance, it’s important to note that you don’t pay any dividend tax on the first £2,000 you receive in dividends, no matter how much other income you receive.
Our salary and dividend tax calculator calculates tax payable on dividends and you can use it to calculate how much tax you’ll pay on the dividends you’ll earn in the current tax year.
