During September 2018, Craig Whelan, our New Business Manager was amongst those volunteers offering their help to orphanages and community care centres across South Africa, on behalf of The Footprint's Foundation.
The Footprints Foundation is a UK based charity which was set up to help improve the lives of vulnerable people, young and old, around the world.
Inspired by the Foundation's ethos of, 'be about doing something, not about being somebody', Craig and his wife, Adele, visited a number of key sites supported by The Footprints Foundation.
Members of Gorilla Accounting undertook a cycling challenge through the Lakes and Dales Loop, a 318km circuit, starting and ending in Kirkby Lonsdale, to raise funds for two local OnSide Youth Zone charities; Bolton Lads and Girls Club and Wigan Youth Zone.
The challenge took place on 14 September 2017, across three days, and the fundraising total came to - £10,481 (incl gift aid).
Both charities; Wigan Youth Zone and Bolton Lads and Girls Club are located in the North West, close to the Gorilla Accounting office.
The team was captained by three riders, Norman Molyneux, Gordon Lane and Tim Murphy, director of Gorilla Accounting.
Craig Whelan, Head of New Business, will be taking to Selby, Yorkshire, on 5th August for a Wing Walk – all proceeds will be donated to Cancer Research UK.
The event involves being strapped to the top of a Boeing Stearman biplane, all the way through from take-off to landing, which will travel at speeds of up to 135mph. The pilot will be taking the aircraft through barrel rolls and loops for a 10-15-minute period.
“This has been personally funded as a 30th Birthday present from my wife as it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time,” said Craig.
“I thought this would be an ideal opportunity to raise some money for a worthy cause, so I decided to choose Cancer Research UK.”
If you would like to show your support, you can make a donation through Craig’s Just Giving page.
