What is Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a way of corporate businesses recognising their impact on society and the environment. It’s a business model that encourages companies to integrate social and environmental issues into their everyday business strategy, operation, and interactions.Â
What is Gorilla Accounting Doing About it?
At Gorilla Accounting, we’re passionate about protecting our planet and making a positive contribution to the environment.
Each week, we all contribute to climate change through our daily activities – whether it is driving or whilst at work. Carbon Footprint represents the amount of CO2Â each person produces each year. The lower our Carbon Footprint, the smaller our effect on Climate Change.
We Pledge to Plant a Tree Every Day in 2021
We’ve teamed up with EFORESTS to help reduce our carbon footprint and combat climate change.
We are committing to planting the equivalent of one tree every day during 2021, with £2,000 donated to ensure that we do our bit during the ongoing climate emergency.
How Does It Work?
EFORESTS plant the trees right across the UK – from Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands. The trees, which are only UK native species, are predominantly planted in nature reserves and community woodlands. The type of trees planted include:
- Crab Apple
- Downy Birch
- Field maple
- Goat Willow
- Grey Willow
- Guelder Rose
- Hazel
- Holly
- Hornbeam
- Oak
- Rowan
- Scots Pine
- Sessile Oak
- Silver Birch
- Small Leaved Lime
- Spindle
- Wayfaring Tree
- Wild Cherry
- Wild Service Tree
- Yew
What is the Impact?
Most trees typically absorb around 0.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide over a span of 70 years. However, a tree will continue to absorb carbon over the rest of its lifetime which can be 300+ years depending on the species.Â
How Can You Get Involved?
- For anyone looking to reduce their own carbon footprint – and combat climate change – there are a number of things you can be doing. This includes:
- Plant trees (just like us!)
- Adjust your diet and reduce your intake of meat and dairy.
- Recycle, Recycle, Recycle.
- Reduce the amount you drive and walk more.
- Turn off electricals, not in use at home.
- Avoid wasting food.
Why is CSR Important?
There are numerous benefits of Corporate social responsibility, for business, for our team, and most importantly, for the environment.
People are more likely to engage with a socially responsible company, in the same way, that those looking for a job will seek out companies that have a good public image. It also helps increase creativity within a workplace – encouraging and empowering employees to see the bigger picture within your organisation.
Some of Our CSR Projects
We’re actively involved in several charity projects in 2021. This includes:
- We are donating food to Bolton Food Hub to ensure those in need within the local area have access to vital food supplies throughout the year.
- We are supporting the Bolton Lads and Girls Club by pledging £2,500 this year. This money will help the fantastic charity support children in the local area, providing them with a safe and fun environment in which to learn, play and develop.
- Two members of our team will be running the London Marathon (virtually if it doesn’t go ahead), and we have committed to help raise £5,000 between them for worthy causes.
- We also have a member of our team taking part in the Manchester Marathon, and we have committed to helping them raise over £2,000.
