The lives of contractors and freelancers look to become simpler with HMRC’s release of the test version of the online personal digital account. This follows a previous blog on our site about the full version of the service and a private beta site has been launched, with only selected users able to use this.
Invites from HMRC will provide benefits to these users, such as:
- the ability to view personal details (name, National Insurance number, and address);
- a Tax Estimate Service indicating how much tax has been paid through PAYE, and allowing the taxpayer to check the information the estimate is based on, replacing the paper P2 tax coding notice; and
- links to income tax-related online forms on GOV.UK.
The full version is expected to be launched in five years’ time and will be more developed than the current beta site including the use of further services. Some of these additional services include allowing taxpayers to register, file, pay and update tax information at any time using the digital device of their choice, as well as become mandatory for every individual taxpayer and business.
